Render Farm Overview

Render Farm Updated 18 Jul 2026

What it does

The farm splits jobs into frame chunks across workers. Track progress, failures, and cost per shot in real time.

Key pages

  • Dashboard - scoped job queue (My Work / My Shows / Whole Farm), filters, bulk actions
  • Farm Machines - host-grouped worker slots, pools, enable/disable
  • Priority queue - dispatch order and inline priority
  • Render cost - oversight-only spend (see Render Farm Costs guide)

Submit from Houdini via Boi Render; jobs appear in the queue within seconds.

Overview

Dashboard, queue, workers, costs, and submitting from Houdini.

Steps

  1. Submit from DCC with ROP/output paths the workers can read.
  2. Watch the scoped queue (My Work / My Shows / Whole Farm).
  3. Retry failed chunks; escalate stuck jobs to wrangler.
  4. Review render cost on hot shots if you have oversight access.

Gotchas

  • Workers must read the same NAS/Tailscale paths as artists.
  • Render cost appears after job completion, not at queue time.
