Render Farm Costs

Render Farm Updated 18 Jul 2026

What it does

Farm jobs accumulate render seconds per chunk; on job completion cost rolls to the output PEID and appears on the oversight-only Render cost page.

How to read it

  • Queue Cost column - visible to producers, finance, admin (not plain artists).
  • Render cost page - top jobs and shots by spend.
  • Job detail - PEID and cost card for one job.

What to do

Wranglers retry failed chunks from the queue; producers watch spend on hot shots. Storage half of PEID-3 is separate (see PEID-3 Cost guide).

Overview

Who sees render cost, queue column, and per-shot rollups.

Steps

  1. Submit from DCC with ROP/output paths the workers can read.
  2. Watch the scoped queue (My Work / My Shows / Whole Farm).
  3. Retry failed chunks; escalate stuck jobs to wrangler.
  4. Review render cost on hot shots if you have oversight access.

Gotchas

  • Workers must read the same NAS/Tailscale paths as artists.
  • Render cost appears after job completion, not at queue time.
